Zero Carbon Israel
In a time of rising costs, growing volatility in fuel prices and geopolitical turmoil, the global energy market is facing challenges that it has never previously encountered. Climate change is forcing nations to substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time there is a constant growth in energy demand involving significant investment in energy generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure, as well as considerable land allocation.
True energy security for Israel must commit to a substantially increased share of renewable energy resources, i.e., energy that does not depend on the supply of finite resources - and emits no pollutants or greenhouse gases.
"Towards a Zero Carbon Israel" (Hebrew text available) offers a practical and responsible vision for Israel's energy sector in the 21st century as an alternative to the existing policy. The study shows that it is possible to convert Israel’s electricity sector to a sustainable one, while minimizing environmental impact and greenhouse gas emissions. It is imperative to begin operating immediately in order for the outcomes to be achieved.
