Heinrich Boell Stiftung Israel works in the following issue areas:

• Environment and Sustainability
• Gender and Democracy
• Foreign and Security Policy
• German-Israeli Dialogue

We consider gender and diversity to be a crosscutting issue for our work in all programs.

Our Environment and Sustainability program emphasizes the connections between environmental issues and social and economic concerns, promoting a comprehensive understanding of society and sustainability. In Israel, we focus on areas such as climate and energy policy, green economy, smart growth, urban resilience, and sustainable communities. By working in collaboration with our partners, we aim to effectively promote sustainable development and drive positive change in these areas.

Our democracy program aims to strengthen an all-inclusive, participatory democratic system that guarantees full civil and human rights. Recognizing that gender plays a critical role in shaping our societies, we work to advance values and practices that align with gender democracy.

Our Foreign and Security Policy program aims to expand the conventional security discourse by incorporating a human security perspective. We facilitate discussions among NGOs, experts, media, and government officials on current regional and security policy issues and create opportunities for addressing and resolving diplomatic and security crises.

Our German-Israeli Dialogue program is dedicated to promoting dialogue and the exchange of knowledge and perspectives on shared societal challenges and opportunities between relevant actors from various sectors in Germany and Israel.

Who we are

Shaping the socio-ecological transformation of human societies while fostering democracy, advancing equality between women and men, promoting sustainability, promoting peaceful conflict resolution and defending the freedom of individuals against excessive state and economic power – these are the objectives that drive the ideas and actions of the Heinrich Böll Foundation. We maintain close ties to the German Green Party (Alliance 90/The Greens) and as a think tank for green visions and projects, we are part of an international network with partners in approximately 60 countries.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation works independently and nurtures a spirit of intellectual openness. We maintain a world wide network with currently 33 international offices. We cooperate closely with 16 state-level Böll Foundations in each of Germany’s federal states, and we support talented, socio-politically engaged undergraduate and graduate students in Germany and abroad.

We gladly follow Heinrich Böll’s exhortation for citizens to get involved in politics, and we want to inspire others to do the same.
